Academic Development

One of the main reasons I decided to pursue optometry is because I love the idea of being able to work with patients and see them grow up every year at their annual exams. One of the ways I plan to make myself a well-rounded optometrist is by also obtaining a bachelor’s degree in medical sociology. It is important to me that I become a physician who is knowledgeable and welcoming to patients of all backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, abilities, and cultures.

I am also completing an undergraduate degree in biology where I have learned so many skills in the field of science that will be transferable to my future career. Within my biology degree I have taken many influential and important courses. Two of the most important courses that have helped prepare me for my future career are physiology and physics. In physiology the anatomy and function of the eye  were discussed in depth. Physics has also introduced me into the world of optics, and has instilled in me the knowledge of how light focuses on the retina and how we can accommodate for focusing behind and in front of it.
